The Indian Premier League (IPL) General Council on Saturday, September 28 is set to host a meeting at the Four Seasons Hotel in Bengaluru to discuss on the player retentions with the talks around the auction intensifying with each passing day. However, the meeting was called as “a last minute decision” after the members were handed a notice on Friday, September 27, a report by Cricbuzz quoted.
While IPL retentions will be the main criterion for the meeting, the venue for the IPL 2025 mega auction will also be discussed. According to several reports, the auction is set to be held outside of India. If the reports are to be believed, the auction is set to be held in the Middle East towards the end of November 2024.
IPL teams to be allowed five retentions, one RTM card: Reports
Earlier in July, the BCCI held a meeting with all ten IPL franchise owners to arrive at a consensus on retentions, which was likely to be between two and eight as the franchises like Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings eyeing to secure the services of the best talent for the next edition.
Meanwhile, latest report citing ESPNcricinfo has informed that the ten IPL franchises will be allowed five retentions each. The franchises will also have an option of using one Right to Match (RTM) card during the IPL 2025 auction. Although a clarity on how many Indian as well as overseas players can be retained is yet to be announced by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), ESPNcricinfo informed.
Furthermore, the retention slabs are also not known yet, the overall purse also cannot be confirmed at the moment. But, according to several reports, it is to be understood that the purse will hover around INR 115-120 Crore mark. A decision on the same is likely to come out in the next 24 hours, as reported by Cricbuzz.
