After inviting the hosts to bat first, it was Mitchell Starc who stood out among the Aussie bowlers as he finished with the figures of 3/55 in 10 overs. While the Australians took the field without any prominent black armbands, it was the veteran bowler, Starc, who was seen sporting one with the initials ‘PH’ inscribed on it. Days after the win, the Aussie pacer has revealed that it was for Phillip Hughes.
The veteran paid tribute to the late cricketer with the black armband featuring ‘PH’ initials.
Notably, this wasn’t the first time an Aussie player sported the PH embroidered black armband. Earlier, former Australia skipper Michael Clark had also worn a similar armband while leading his side to the 2015 World Cup title.
It is to be noted that Hughes featured in 26 Tests and 25 ODIs for Australia between 1009 and 2014. He was struck in the neck by a bouncer in a Sheffield shield match in November 2014 and passed away just before his 26th birthday, some nine years ago now.
