The ongoing ICC Men’ Cricket World Cup 2023 saw another massive upset as Netherlands beat South Africa at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala on October 18. After being invited to bat first, the Scott Edwards-led side posted 245/8 in the 43 overs, courtesy skipper’s unbeaten knock of 78 off 69 deliveries.

However, the Dutch side thereafter wreaked havoc with their disciplined bowling as they bundled out the Proteas men for 207 in 42.5 overs, winning the match by 38 runs. While David Miller scored 43 off 52 balls, Keshav Maharaj finished as the second highest run-scorer for the side, adding 40 off 37 deliveries.

During the South Africa innings, Keshav Maharaj put up a 41-run partnership with Lungi Ngidi for the final wicket, a brilliant effort by Scott Edwards and van Beek decimated the applecart of South Africa. But what caught eyeballs during the final wicket stand was Keshav Maharaj’s bat sporting the ‘Om’ symbol. Picture of the same have been going viral since then.

However, this did not sit well with a lot of fans as they took to microblogging site X to compare it with Muhammad Rizwan’s offering namaz on the field post Pakistan’s win over Netherlands in their tournament opener.
