The ODI World Cup 2023 must have started on a positive note for Team India, but it hasn’t been the start that anyone expected for the young Indian opener Shubman Gill. The 24-year-old who did not travel with the side to the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai and continues to remain in Chennai despite the team travelling to Delhi for their next match.

While it is also confirmed that Gill will miss India’s match against Afghanistan after the BCCI on Monday, October 9 shared a medical update on the same, as per the latest report doing rounds, the young batter has been hospitalised in Chennai. However, the Indian cricket board has not shared any update on Gill’s hospitalisation, it is being reported that he is currently being treated in Kaveri hospital following a dip in the platelet count.
As reported by Cricbuzz, Gill’s platelet count has now raised concerns for the side, promoting immediate medical attention. It can also be understood that if Gill does not regain full fitness, he might miss the all-important match against Pakistan at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
Talking about the last game where India faced Australia in the tournament opener in Chennai, Ishan Kishan was called in as Gill’s replacement. Rohit Sharma at the toss revealed that the wicketkeeper-batter will open the inning in place of Gill, who continues to recover from dengue.
