India’s compound mixed team duo of Ojas Deotale and Jyothi Surekha Vennam have clinched successive gold from two finals this season as they defeated top-seeded Korea in Shanghai, 156-155. Earlier this year, the duo won the World Cup stage 1 gold medal in Antalya. Both the Indian archers and the Korean pair of Kim Jongho and Oh Yoohyun shot identical 39s out of 40 in each of the first three ends.
Towards the end, the Korean duo cracked under pressure as Deotale and Jyothi came up with a 39 again and clinched back-to-back World Cup gold medals. They made it to the finals by defeating their Italian rivals Elisa Roner and Elia Fregnan 157-157 (19*-19).
After clinching the second gold in the World Cup, Jyothi said, "Throughout the World Cup, our coordination and shooting process were very good. And in the final too, we focused on our shooting process." She went on to say, "World Championships are the most important event for us. And winning the gold medals is a big boost to our confidence. We look to continue the momentum."
The Indians had earlier defeated Bangladesh (158-151) and Turkey (157-156) to reach the last four. In other news, Prathamesh Jawkar defeated the world No. 1, Mike Schloesser to clinch the men’s Individual gold at the 2023 Shanghai World Cup. On the other hand, Avneet Kaur won the women’s individual bronze, after having a fine week that led to her first senior World Cup stage individual podium finish.
