T he hosts, England have been handed a massive blow as their batter Ollie Pope will miss the remainder of Ashes series. Pope sustained the injury while diving in the field during the recently concluded second Test.

Scans on Tuesday, July 4 confirmed that the England vice-captain will require a surgery and will now miss the rest of the summer. The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) however has not announced Pope’s replacement, but Dan Lawrence is the most likely one to be named for the third Test.

Talking about Ollie Pope, the batter has injured his right shoulder after dislocating the left twice before having a surgery in 2020. The 25-year-old scored 43 off 63 in the England first innings whereas he was dismissed for a score of 3 by Mitchell Starc in the final inning of the match.

Talking about the Ashes 2023, England currently trail by 2-0 having lost both the Tests by two wickets and 43 runs respectively. The two nations will now head to Headingley for the third Test, which is set to take place from July 6-10 in Leeds.
