
The India versus Pakistan rivalry has been among the biggest rivalry in international cricket throughout the years. The excitement for this contest even gets doubled when both teams face each other in the knockout match of an ICC tournament. The two nations faced each other in the semi-final of the 2011 ODI World Cup and it turned out to be a big day in India. The match took place at Punjab Cricket Association Stadium in Mohali on March 30, 2011.
Aiming their second ODI World Cup title after 28 years, India defeated Pakistan by 29 runs in a thrilling semi-final to enter their third World Cup final after 1983 and 2003. Batting first, India posted 260 runs for the loss of nine wickets, thanks to Sachin Tendulkar’s 85-run knock. In reply, Pakistan were bowled out for 231 runs in 49.5 overs.

Batting first, India’s batting superstar Sachin Tendulkar who was playing his last World Cup for India, turned out to be match winner in the semi-final of the 2011 ODI World Cup. The opening batter top scored with 85 runs off 115 balls, hitting 11 boundaries. Apart from that, Suresh Raina also scored 36*(39) runs as India reached the 260-run mark. For Pakistan, Wahab Riaz took a five-wicket haul.
After that, the Indian bowlers took charge as Pakistan failed to chase the target of 261 runs. Misbah-ul-Haq scored a fighting 56(76) runs but couldn’t take his team down the line as Pakistan were bowled out with just one ball remaining. For India, Ashish Nehra, Zaheer Khan, Harbhajan Singh, Munaf Patel and Yuvraj Singh took two wickets each. After that, India went on to defeat Sri Lanka in the final at Wankhede Stadium to lift the ODI World Cup title after 28 years.
