Coming to bat first after losing the toss, KKR lost their first wicket at the score of 21 runs in 3.4 overs.
After that, Gautam Gambhir and Manish Pandey put up a partnership of 100 runs for the second wicket. Pandey got out after scoring 52(29) runs, hitting three fours and as many sixes, while Gambhir played a captain’s knock of 64 runs off 52 balls with four fours and a six. After that, Andre Russell came up with a quickfire 36(17) runs, hitting one four and four sixes as KKR posted 187 runs for the loss of five wickets. Chasing the winning target, Mumbai Indians got a good start as skipper Rohit Sharma and Parthiv Patel added 53 runs for the first wicket in 5.5 overs. Patel got out after scoring 23(20) runs with four boundaries. Hardik Pandya also went back after a mere nine runs and Mitchell McClenaghan scored a quickfire 20(8) runs. After that, Jos Buttler joined Rohit at the crease as the duo added 66 runs for the fourth wicket.
Jos Buttler got out after scoring 41(22) runs, hitting three fours and three sixes. On the other hand, Rohit Sharma remained unbeaten on 84 runs off 54 balls, hitting 10 fours and two sixes as MI chased the winning target in 19.1 overs losing four wickets. For KKR, Piyush Chawla, Kuldeep Yadav and Andre Russell scalped a wicket.
