Rohit Sharma became the first-ever cricketer to smash three double centuries in ODI cricket in a match against Sri Lanka at Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) Stadium in Mohali on December 13, 2017. Rohit Sharma was standing skipper in place of Virat Kohli for the limited over series against Sri Lanka at home. The Men in Blue had a disastrous start in a three-match ODI series after they were bundled out for just 112 runs in the first ODI, losing the match by seven wickets in Dharamsala.
Now, India had to win the second ODI, to avoid the series loss against Sri Lanka at home, and then, the skipper Rohit Sharma took charge of team's fortunes in his own hands. After a failure in the previous game, openers Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan made a great comeback in Mohali, and put up an opening partnership of 115 runs in 21.1 overs. Dhawan got out after scoring 68(67) runs, hitting nine boundaries.

After the fall of the first wicket, Rohit Sharma and Shreyas Iyer made another big partnership as the duo added 213 runs for the third wicket. Iyer scored 88(70) runs with nine fours and two sixes, while Rohit went on to complete his third double hundred in the ODI format. The stand-in skipper remained unbeaten on 208*(153) with 13 fours and 12 sixes as India posted 392/4 in their 50 overs. After that, bowlers did their part well as Sri Lanka were restricted at 251/8, and India won the match by 141 runs.
Rohit Sharma has now the most double centuries by a batter in ODI cricket, with three to his name. He also boast a records for the highest individual score in an ODI innings after he smashed 264 runs against Sri Lanka in Kolkata in 2014.
