The Netherlands cricketer Sybrand Engelbrecht played a key knock of 70 runs off 82 balls against Sri Lanka in the World Cup 2023. Netherlands took on Sri Lanka in a thrilling encounter at the EKANA Stadium, Lucknow, on October 21, Saturday. Dutch skipper Scott Edwards won the toss and invited rivals to bowl first. Coming on the back of a win against South Africa and were looking forward to carrying the same kind of momentum.

Engelbrecht contributed a crucial 70 runs for their side to take the team score to 262. The 35-year-old represented South Africa in the U-19 World Cup in Malaysia and took one of the most crucial catches for the side in the tournament. However, after the World Cup, Engelbrecht called it quits on his cricketing career in 2016 and started working full-time after completing his higher studies.
The cricketer spoke about his career, "I started working for a business called Fairtree in January 2017. "Two years into my corporate career, I did an MBA from Stellenbosch Business School. So, it was a couple of years that I didn't really have much to do with cricket. I'm still working full-time. I'm still very fortunate to work for a fantastic business, so that's still my primary focus. Whilst I'm here, I'm going to give it my all for Dutch cricket."
The 35-year-old made his debut for the Netherlands in the ODI World Cup 2023 against New Zealand on October 9 and went on to score key runs for his side against Sri Lanka. On Saturday’s clash, the cricketer saved his side from collapsing after 91 runs at the loss of six wickets.
