On Saturday, January 4, during the second day’s play in the fifth and final Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) series, Yashasvi Jaiswal took a hilarious jibe at Sam Konstas in Hindi after the frequent back-and-forth between them in the middle recently. Jaiswal was heard mispronouncing his opposing counterpart’s name as “Kontas” before exclaiming about why he isn’t able to play his attacking shots on a spicy pitch at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG).

Notably, after Australia bowled India out for 185 runs on day one, Sam Konstas was involved in a heated argument with opposition captain Jasprit Bumrah before his partner Usman Khawaja lost his wicket on the last ball of the day. At the start of day two at the SCG, the Indian cricket team came out with an attacking mindset, and they got into the faces of the Australian batters, including the teenager Sam Konstas.

Oye Kontas, shot nahi lag raha kya abhi?: Yashasvi Jaiswal to Sam Konstas

In one of the interactions or lack thereof, due to a self-imposed language barrier. Yashasvi Jasiwal chirped at Sam Konstas in his native Hindi language, which was caught on the stump mic. He said, “Kya ho gaya ab shot nahi dikh rahe kya? Oye Kontas (Konstas), shot nahi lag raha kya abhi? (What happened, where are your strokes? Oh Konstas, why aren’t you hitting your strokes?).”

Shortly after the chatter, Mohammed Siraj picked up the key wicket of Sam Konstas in the morning session on day two, nicking him through to Yashasvi Jaiswal at gully for 23 off 38. The Indian bowlers kept chipping away at the wickets despite their captain Jasprit Bumrah going to the hospital for scans, and they managed to bowl Australia out for 181 runs, taking a lead of four runs after Prasidh Krishna and Mohammed Siraj taking three wickets.

At the close of play on day two, India had reached 141/6, extending their lead to 145 runs after an exceptional counterpunching innings of 61 runs in just 33 balls from Rishabh Pant, while for Australia, Scott Boland picked up four wickets.
