Indian pacer  Mohammed Shami , who has been sidelined from international cricket because of injuries, spoke in an exclusive interview about being “pain-free,” while focusing his attention on making India return during the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) Test series in Australia. The 34-year-old also alluded to bowling full tilt during a net session at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru a day ago after India lost the first Test against New Zealand by eight wickets.

Notably, after the Indian cricket team suffered a rare Test match defeat at home against New Zealand, the first one in 36 years, Mohammed Shami went at a 100 per cent in the nets with the ball against Shubman Gill and assistant coach Abhishek Nayar. The Indian fast bowler has been out of competitive cricket for nearly a year due to an ankle injury, and during his rehabilitation phase, he reportedly suffered a problem in his left knee, which was heavily strapped during the recent net session.

I am very happy with how I bowled yesterday: Mohammed Shami on bowling full tilt in nets in Bengaluru

During his latest interview on the sidelines of the Eugenix Hair Sciences event, Mohammed Shami was pleased about his stint in the nets at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru a day prior. He was quoted as saying, as per Times of India, “I am very happy with how I bowled yesterday. I was bowling from half run-up before that because I didn’t want to take too much load. But yesterday, I decided to go full tilt, and I bowled at a 100 per cent.”

Mohammed Shami also spoke about the progress he has made in rehabilitation in the recent months, and said, “The result was good. I am 100 per cent pain-free.” “Everyone has been wondering for a long time about whether I will make it for the Australia series but it is still some time away,” he commented on the potential of making India return during the BGT Test series next month.

Mohammed Shami expected to play Ranji Trophy game for Bengal for India return in second half of BGT

The first of the five Test matches in the BGT will begin on November 22 onwards at the Optus Stadium in Perth, which will be followed by a day-night Test in Adelaide before Brisbane, Melbourne, and Sydney welcome both the teams for the remainder of the series. As per the latest report from the Indian Express, Mohammed  Shami return to India team could happen in the second half of Australia tour, but prior to that, he is expected to play a Ranji Trophy game for Bengal.
