The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Thursday, August 24 named a 15-member squad for the upcoming Asian Games 2023. The 19th edition of the Asian Games are set to take place from September 23 till October 8 in Hangzhou, China. The Pakistan board has named a second-string squad and has taken a bold decision as they have named Qasim Akram as the skipper of the side.

 

The 20-year-old Qasim Akram with a notable record of 20 First Class matches and 40 T20 appearances, will lead the 15-member squad with the likes of Shahnawaz Dahani, Mohammad Hasnain in the ranks. Notably, uncapped batter Omair Bin Yosuf has been named his deputy for the Asian Games. Additionally, the squad has been addressed by the name of ‘Shaheens’ by the board, which is more like the Pakistan A side.

 

It is to be further added that Pakistan will directly play the quarterfinals, just like their arch-rivals India. The Shaheens will appear in the quarterfinal stage, set to be played on October 3 and 4 with the semifinals and the final set to be played on October 6 and 7 respectively.

Qasim Akram (C), Omair Bin Yousuf (VC), Aamir Jamal, Arafat Minhas, Arshad Iqbal, Asif Ali, Haider Ali, Khushdil Shah, Mirza Tahir Baig, Mohammad Hasnain, Muhammad Akhlaq (wk), Rohail Nazir, Shahnawaz Dahani, Sufiyan Muqeem, Usman Qadir.

Non-travelling reserves:
Abdul Wahid Bangalzai, Mehran Mumtaz, Mohammmad Imran Jr, Muhammad Irfan Khan Niazi, Mubasir Khan.
