Pakistan pace bowler Khurram Shahzad has been ruled out of the remaining two Test matches against Australia due to a rib stress fracture and abdominal muscle tear. The host defeated Pakistan by 360 runs in the first Test at the Optus Stadium in Perth and the second match between the two sides is scheduled to take place on December 26 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
Khurram had an impressive Test debut in Perth as he picked up five wickets in the match. The 24-year-old dismissed Steven Smith and Mitchell Marsh in the first innings while he picked up three wickets in the second innings including David Warner, Steven Smith, and Marnus Labuschagne.
After reporting soreness while bowling in the first Test in Perth, Khurram was sent for scans, which revealed the fracture in his left tenth rib. The injury has led him to miss the remaining Test series against Australia. A statement read, "PCB will now consult a specialist in Australia after which a final management protocol will be established for the player. He will then return to the NCA in Lahore where he will continue his injury management and rehabilitation."
Either Hasan Ali or Mohammad Wasim Jnr is expected to replace the injured Khurram for the final two matches against Australia. Ahead of the second Test match, Pakistan will face the Victorian XI side at the Junction Oval on December 22 for a two-day game.
