Gujarat Titans registered a comfortable three-wicket win over the Punjab Kings at the new Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur near Chandigarh. With this win, the Gujarat Titans replaced the Mumbai Indians as the sixth-placed team with a record of four wins from eight games and a net run rate of -1.055. On the other hand, Punjab went to the ninth spot on the table as they had two wins from eight games.
After winning the toss, Punjab Kings elected to bat first and got off to a blistering start with Prabhsimran Singh taking on Sandeep Warrier. The Punjab youngster and captain Sam Curran stitched up a 52-run stand before all hell broke loose for the Kings. After this opening partnership, PBKS batters underwent a massive collapse and were reduced to 99-7, courtesy of the GT spinners.
Then towards the end of the first innings, Harpreet Singh and Harpreet Brar added a 40-run stand which ensured that Punjab managed to post 142 at the end of 20 overs. For the Titans, Tamil Nadu star Sai Kishore was the top performer as he picked up four wickets while giving away 33 runs in his four overs.
Chasing this total, Gujarat Titans had a streaky start as Wriddhiman Saha was dismissed when the score was 25. But vital knocks from Shubman Gill, Sai Sudharsan and Rahul Tewatia ensured Gujarat comfortably chased down the total in 19.1 overs. For Kings, Harshal Patel was the top bowler with his 3-15 in three overs.
