The Pakistan Cricket Board accepted the resignation of Inzamam-ul-Haq from the designation of Chief Selector. Inzamam submitted his resignation from his charge as the chairperson of both the senior and junior men’s selection committees. The Pakistani board will now nominate a successor with a detailed timeline to be released soon.
Inzamam stepped down from his position on October 30 for the board to conduct an unbiased inquiry amid the rising conflicts. The former selector said he would continue his role if not found guilty. PCB released an official statement saying, “Pakistan Cricket Board has accepted Inzamam-ul-Haq's resignation as the chairman of the national men's selection committee and junior selection committee and will announce his replacement in due course.”
The statement read, “Mr Inzamam-ul-Haq voluntarily stepped down from his position on 30 October 2023 in order to offer the PCB the opportunity to conduct a transparent inquiry about the conflict-of-interest allegations. A five-member fact-finding committee has been formed by the board to investigate allegations regarding conflict of interest reported in the media about the team selection process. The findings of this inquiry will be submitted to the PCB Management promptly.”
Notably, Inzamam was disappointed with the allegations of a conflict of interest involving him and the national senior team. He had earlier served as the chief selector after 2016 and 2019. He selected the Babar Azam-led 15-member squad for the Cricket World Cup 2023 in India.
