The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) reportedly revealed the monthly salaries that the national top men’s cricketers earn. The cricket governing body disclosed the latest and updated contract details of the players that see substantial pay increase across all the categories. According to reports, top cricketers including skipper Babar Azam, Shaheen Afridi and Mohammad Rizwan fall into Category A, which is the highest tier.
These players earn a whopping PKR 4.5 million per month (INR 1.35 million) with their central contracts. These players got a huge 200% raise as compared to their previous pay. Pakistan’s Category B players includes names like Shadab Khan, Fakhar Zaman, Haris Rauf and Naseem Shah. These players get a monthly salary of PKR 3 million ( INR 0.9 million), which is 144% more than their previous earnings.
Speaking of Category C and Category D, including Imad Wasim and Iftikhar Ahmed, these players got a raise of 127-135% salary hike rising their salaries to PKR 750,000 to PKR 1.5 million (INR 2.25 lakh-4.5 lakh). The renewed salaries of PCB’s central-contracted players were announced in September 2023. According to The Express Tribune, apart from their retainers, players also receive match fees across all three formats along with performance-based incentives.
The Men in Green are currently participating in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, being organised in the USA and West Indies. The 2009 champions lost both their group-stage matches against USA and India. They are currently on the cusp of eliminating from the tournament and need to win the clash against Canada to keep their hopes alive.
