Pep Guardiola, 53, has reportedly reached an agreement in principle to sign a one-year contract extension, to stay with Manchester City until the 2025-26 season, to mark his ten years at the club. It is understood that the deal between Guardiola and City is “99% done” after both the parties engaged in new talks recently, while the official announcement from the defending Premier League champions is expected to be made very soon.

After joining Manchester City in the summer of 2016, Pep Guardiola took the English clubs to new heights of success, winning the Premier League title on six occasions in the last seven years apart from securing the UEFA Champions League last year. He has also clinched two FA Cup titles, four League Cup titles, along with bringing the UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup to the Etihad on one occasion each.

Pep Guardiola was rumoured to taking up Brazil and England jobs recently

The news of Pep Guardiola extending his current contract with Manchester City for another year, broken by the sources close to the development at the Football Insider, has come in the aftermath of four straight defeats for the club in all competitions. This is the first-time in his managerial career that a team managed by Pep Guardiola ended up on the losing side four times in a row, which included elimination from the League Cup at the hands of Tottenham Hotspur.

Over the recent weeks and months, with Pep Guardiola serving his last year under contract with Manchester City, there was a lot of speculation about him potentially taking up the international job with either England or Brazil, but nothing materialised. Just last month, the Spainard had insisted in a press conference that he had not made his final decision about staying with Manchester City after the completion of the 2024-25 season.
