Fast bowler Dane Paterson registered the second five-wicket haul of his Test career as South Africa bowled Pakistan out for 211 runs in the first innings on day one of the ongoing boxing day Test at Super Sports Park cricket Stadium in Centurion. After the Proteas ended up winning the T20I series and Pakistan winning the ODI series, both the teams are now set to face each other for a two-match Test series with the first Test being played in Centurion from December 26 to 30 and Paterson shone with the figures of 5/61 on day one of the Test match.
Coming to bat first after losing the toss, Pakistan were looking to get a decent opening start by skipper Shan Masood and Saim Ayub. However, the visitors lost their first wicket at the score 36 runs after 14.1 overs Masood was dismissed by Corbin Bosch after scoring 17(58) runs with two boundaries. After a few deliveries, Ayub also lost his wicket against Paterson after scoring 14(35) runs. After that, Babar Azam (4 off 11) and Saud Shakeel (14 off 6) also went early as Pakistan were reduced to 56/4.
Kamran Ghulam scores maiden Test fifty as Pakistan post 211 in first innings
After the loss of four wickets, Kamran Ghulam and Mohammad Rizwan took charge of the innings as the duo added 81 runs for the fifth wicket. Rizwan got out after scoring 27(62) runs with a couple of boundaries. On the other hand, Ghulam who made headlines with a century in his debut Test against England, went on to score his maiden Test fifty and got after scoring 54(71) runs hitting eight fours and a maximum.
Aamir Jamal also contributed with 28(27) in the end as Pakistan were bowled out for 211 runs in 57.3 overs. For the Proteas, Dane Paterson registered figures of 5/61, while Corbin Bosch scalped four and Marco Jansen put on in his bag.
