After a disappointing loss in the first match against Pakistan, the defending champions India finally registered their first win in the ongoing U19 Asia Cup 2024 after they defeated Japan by 211 runs in match number eight at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium. Indian skipper Mohamed Amaan led from the front with a captain’s knock of 122*(118) as they finally opened their account in the ongoing tournament.
Batting first, India got a flying start as Vaibhav Suryavanshi and Ayush Mhatre put up an opening partnership of 65 runs in 7.2 overs. Suryanshi got out after a run-a-ball 23 runs with three fours and a six. Mhatre scored a quickfire 54 runs in 29 balls, hitting six fours and four sixes. After that, Andre Siddharth and Mohamed Amaan added 58 runs for the third wicket.

Andre SIddharth got out after scoring 35 runs off 48 balls with two boundaries. After that, Mohamed Amaan put up a partnership of 122 runs along with KP Karthikeya for the fourth wicket. Karthkeya got out after scoring 57(49) runs with five fours and a maximum, while Amaan remained unbeaten on 122 off 118 hitting seven boundaries. Hardik Raj alao gave finishing touches with 25*(12) runs as India U19 posted 339/6 in their 50 overs.
Chasing the winning target, Japan U19 couldn’t go with the required run rate as they could only reach 128 runs for the loss of eight wickets after the end of 50 overs. Opener Hugo Kelly top scored with a steady knock of 50(111) runs with six boundaries. For India, Chetan Sharma, KP Karthikeya, and Hardik Raj took two wickets each, while Yudhajit Guha put one in his bag. India will now face UAE U-19 in their last league match of the U19 Asia Cup in Sharjah on December 4.
