Sri Lanka continued their dominance in the ongoing two-match Test series against New Zealand at the Galle International Stadium. The hosts defeated the Kiwis by an innings and 154 runs in the second Test to sweep the series 2-0. After getting bowled out for just 88 runs in the first innings, New Zealand were forced to follow-on by Sri Lanka. After that, Sri Lankan spin bowler Nishan Peiris shone in the second innings with a six-wicket haul as the hosts registered a famous Test series win over New Zealand for the first-time in 15 years. 

The star of the fourth day for Sri Lanka belonged to Nishan Peiris. The right-arm off spinner took six wickets while conceding 170 runs in 33.4 overs. He picked up big wickets of Tom Latham, Kane Williamson, Rachin Ravindra, Tom Blundell, Glenn Phillips and Mitchell Santner in the New Zealand second innings. The Black Caps were bowled out for 360 runs as Phillips top scored with 78(99), hitting six fours and three sixes apart from fifties for Devon Conway, Tom Blundell, and Mitchell Santner.

Kamindu Mendis wins player of the match for his 182* in first innings vs New Zealand in Galle

Sri Lanka won the two-match Test series against New Zealand by 2-0, their first such success in more than a decade and a half. Kamindu Mendis was adjudged player of the match for his knock of 182*(250) runs in the Sri Lankan first innings. With the help of his hundred, Sri Lanka posted a mammoth 602/5 in the first innings. Along with Kamindu Mendis, his teammates Dinesh Chandimal (116 off 208) and Kusal Mendis (106* off 149) also came up with respective centuries.

After posting a huge total, the Sri Lankan bowler did their part impressively well, and bowled New Zealand out for just 88 runs in the first innings, taking a massive lead of 514 runs. Prabath Jayasuriya shone with the ball against by taking six wickets in the Kiwi first innings. After that, Nishan Peiris took charge with the ball in the second innings after Sri Lanka forced New Zealand to follow-on, and he took a six-wicket as his team bowled out the visitors out for 360 runs to win match and series comprehensively.
