Wanindu Hasaranga turned out to be the star as Rajasthan Royals finally got their first win of IPL 2025 after two consecutive losses. The leg spinner registered the figures of 4/35 in his spell of four overs as RR succesfully defended the total of 182 runs against CSK to open their account in the ongoing season. Playing his first season for RR, Hasaranga is now the leading wicket-taker for the franchise with five wickets in two matches so far.
Batting first, RR lost their first wicket in the very first over as Khaleed Ahmed dismissed Yashasvi Jaiswal. After that, Sanju Samson and Nitish Rana added 82 runs for the second wicket. Samson got out after scoring 20(16) runs, while Nitish top scored with 81 runs off 36 balls hitting 10 fours and five sixes. He also put up a partnership of 58 runs with skipper Riyan Parag who scored 37(28) runs hitting two fours and two sixes.However, none of the other batters could score big as RR were restricted to 182 runs for the loss of nine wickets. For CSK, Khaleel Ahmed, Noor Ahmad and Matheesha Pathirana scalped two wickets each while Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja scalped a wicket each.
Ruturaj Gaikwad's fighting 50 goes vain
Chasing the winning target, CSK lost their opening batter Rachin Ravindra in the very first over as Jofra Archer struck first for RR. After that, Rahul Tripathi and skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad added 46 runs for the second wicket. Tripathi got out after scoring 23(19) runs while Gaikwad took the innings further with wickets falling from the other end. However, he couldn't take his team down the line as he got out in the 16th over after scoring 63(44) runs hitting seven fours and a maximum.
After that, Ravindra Jadeja and MS Dhoni also took the match to the last over but couldn't take their team through the winning line. Dhoni got out after scoring 16(11) while Jadeja remained unbeaten 32*(22) runs as CSK were restricted at For RR, Wanindu Hasaranga took four wickets, Jofra Archer and Sandeep Sharma scalped a wicket each.
