James Anderson, the former England pacer, is reportedly set to miss the first month of action in the County Championship for Lancashire in the 2025 season because of an issue with his right calf in the build-up. It is understood that the injury to the right calf was sustained by the 42-year-old during the pre-season trip to Desert Springs in Spain, which is why he won’t be playing for Lancashire County Cricket Club this month, and his return date isn’t confirmed either.
Notably, before his unexpected fitness issue, James Anderson was slated to take the field for Lancashire in the County Championship Division Two clash against Middlesex at the Lord’s in London, where he played his final Test match for England last summer against West Indies. Lancashire were hoping to get the entire season of County Championship matches from the veteran, to give themselves the best chance to get promoted to division one, but it won’t be the case now.
The return date of James Anderson to the County Championship for Lancashire isn’t confirmed yet
The right calf issue isn’t new for James Anderson as he was ruled out of the English summer in 2019 due to it, which was also the year England won the ODI World Cup for the first-time ever in their illustrious cricketing history. The injury to the fast bowler at the time happened during the first session of the first Test match of the Ashes series against Australia at Lord’s in London.
Moreover, in one of his recent comments, made during Lancashire’s media day recently, James Anderson talked about his preparation for the County Championship. He was quoted as saying, as per ESPNcricinfo, “I reckon it's been about since Christmas, really.. It's been a good block. I've been away a couple of times with England, but in between - it's only been 10 days or so that I've been away - it's mainly been here with the lads training. I feel great. My fitness is as good as it's been. My bowling's been good. I'm really excited.”
While the return date of James Anderson to the County Championship isn’t confirmed yet, he will be planning to be in action as early as the month of May since his right calf issue isn’t suggested to be a big one.
