Star Portugal football, Cristiano Ronaldo has found a place in the side’s 25-member squad for the upcoming Nations League matches. It is to be noted that Portugal is set to face Croatia and Scotland in the UEFA Nations League fixtures next month. The Portugal international finds a place despite an ineffective outing at the Euro 2024.
The 39-year-old who failed to hit the back of the net at his record sixth appearance at the European Championship earlier this year, saw Portugal make an exit after their quarter-finals loss. Despite a poor show at the Euro, Ronaldo has the backing of coach Roberto Martinez.
Moreover, while the 39-year-old is expected to lead the side in the upcoming outings with Paris Saint-Germain striker, Goncalo Ramos sidelined with an ankle injury. Furthermore, Martinez is looking into the future as he has called up 17-year-old Sporting Libson winger, Geovany Quenda. Renato Veiga and Tiago Santo are also some new faces who have been named in the side for Portugal’s clash against Croatia and Scotland.
Speaking of the Nations League, it is a biennial international football competition involving men's national teams of all the member associations of UEFA. In the international tournament, while Portugal will take on Croatia on September 5, their match against Scotland is scheduled for September 8.
