The Indian opening batter Prithvi Shaw took to Instagram to share a cryptic post on August 20, Sunday, after suffering a knee injury in England, which abruptly ended his county stint with Northamptonshire. The 23-year-old posted a picture of his injured left knee, covered in a brace, with a caption, “People give hands when you step up in life, and always leaves it when you go down from steps.”
The injury for Prithvi Shaw happened while fielding for Northamptonshire during their Metro Bank One Day Cup 2023 fixture against Durham at the Riverside Ground on August 13. This led to scans, revealing that the “injury is worse than initially expected,” according to a statement from Northamptonshire. Later it was confirmed that the Thane-born cricketer suffered Posterior Cruciate Ligament (PCL) injury in his left knee.

But still, during his four-match stint with Northamptonshire, Prithvi Shaw made a massive impact, scoring 429 runs in four innings with two centuries, at an average of 143 and strike rate of 152.67. His 244 off 153 balls against Somerset was the second-highest individual score in the English List A cricket history, behind 268 from Alistair Brown.
The head coach of Northamptonshire, John Sadler, had this to say about Prithvi Shaw’s campaign in the Metro Bank One Day Cup 2023 with the cricket club, “In his short stint Prithvi has made a huge impact on us as a club. It's a huge shame he won't be with us for the remainder of this competition. He's an extremely humble young man, he's very respectful and had been so grateful for the opportunity to represent Northamptonshire.”
