The Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) elections that were scheduled to be hosted on August 12, Saturday, have been put to a halt. Earlier the elections of the WFI were scheduled from July 6 to July 11 as per the Indian Olympic Association (IOC) but were later postponed to August 12. However, a day before the elections, the Chandigarh High Court put a stay on the polling. Meanwhile, the new election dates are yet to be announced.

The next hearing of the case is scheduled on August 28, which means the new date for election will be announced after it. The stay on the election has been obtained by ‘Haryana’s Wrestling Association’ on not getting an electoral college for the polls.

Later, Rohtash Singh and Rakesh Singh were picked from the 'Haryana Amateur Wrestling Association (HAWA)' to represent Haryana in the WFI elections. However, the Haryana Wrestling Association approached the High Court. In a hearing on August 11, the High Court decided to pause the elections proceedings.

Haryana Wrestling Association’s advocate Ravinder Malik said that if the HAWA is allowed to contest elections, the polls will be illegal. He said, "We have challenged the returning officer's order in the HC, saying that the Haryana Amateur Wrestling Association may be affiliated with the WFI but it is not affiliated with the HOA, meaning they are not entitled to participate in the poll process.”

Malik added, "In case, Haryana Amateur Wrestling Association is allowed to participate in the election process, then it will cause prejudice as well as the WFI elections will be illegal.”
