PV Sindhu the two-time Olympic medallist dropped out of the top 10 in the world rankings for the first time in six years on Tuesday. Sindhu slipped 2 spots to go to the 11th position with 60,448 points. She made a comeback after nursing a Left leg stress fracture which she sustained during the Commonwealth games and kept her out for 5 months. Sindhu failed to defend her Swiss Open title as she crashed out in the Round of 16 to Indonesia’s P.K Wardani.
She was knocked out in the Round of 32 at the India Open and the All-England Open too. The two-time Olympic medallist is having a rough patch and this led to her dropping out of the top 10 for the first time since 2016. She first cracked the elite top 10 in August 2013. Her all-time best is No 2 when she was on fire and won a world championship and a historic Olympics silver medal but that time seems far away now.
In men's singles, HS Prannoy was static as world number 8, while Kidambi Srikanth dropped to one place to 21st place and Lakshya Sen was 25th.
Swiss Open champion Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty strengthened their world number six position, while the women's doubles pairing of Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand was static at the 18th position.
The first round of Spain Masters starts on March 29 and the Swiss Open champion pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty will look to continue their consistent run. The world no 6 pair will look to add another super 300 titles to their belt.
In the singles department, Kidambi Srikanth will look to be more consistent and PV Sindhu will try to get back to her pre-injury best.
