Two-time Olympic medallist and Indian ace shuttler PV Sindhu ended her French Open second round match in a bizarre turn of events on Thursday, 26 October. The Indian shuttler, who entered the French Open on the back of two semifinal losses at the Denmark and Arctic Open, respectively, made her exit from the ongoing French Open too.

Playing her second round match against Thailand’s Supanida Katethong, the Indian was forced to retire from her women’s singles match due to a knee injury. Leading the games post her first set win 21-18 and going down in the second set, the Indian complained of some discomfort in her left knee at the Glaz Arena.
However, the medical team checked upon her and applied some spray, the Indian eventually decided to concede post consulting with her coach Hafiz Hashim twice. With this, her Thailand opponent advanced into the quarterfinals of the French Open 2023.
Tough decision to withdraw: PV Sindhu
The 28-year-old took to X to elaborate on her decision to withdraw from the BWF World Tour Super 750 event. “Tough decision to withdraw!! In the first set, I felt something wrong in my left knee but chose to continue to play. However, the pain started to linger. I retired from the game because I felt that retiring was a decision to take a closer look at my knee and have my physio examine it”, she wrote.
Further urging and requesting everybody to not reach out to her on the injury, Sindhu further added, “I have always taken pride in my career to use minimal medical breaks or injury timeouts. However, I chose to respect my body.”
