India veteran Ravichandran Ashwin has maintained top spot among Test bowlers despite not being featured in the World Test Championship Final 2023 with 860 rating points. The Indian off spinner wasn’t a part of playing XI in the recently concluded ‘Ultimate Test’ that saw Australia clinching their maiden WTC title. Apart from Ashwin, his fellow spinner Ravindra Jadeja maintains ninth spot, as per the latest ICC Test rankings 2023.
On the batting side, Australia batters have achieved a rare feat, and three Aussie batters occupy top three spots in the standings. Scoring 163 in the first two days of the WTC Final, Travis Head joined Marnus Labuschagne (first) and Steve Smith (2nd) in the top three, by scoring 884.
The last time that three batters from the same side occupied top three spots in the rankings of the longest format of cricket was in December 1984. During those rankings, West Indies’ Gordon Greenidge (810), Clive Lloyd (787), and Larry Gomes (773) formed the top trio.
Other than these three batters, Usman Khawaja from the same side made it to the ninth rank with 777 rating points.
India’s Ajinkya Rahane helped him return to the ranking charts in the 37th position, owing to his knocks of 89 and 46 in the WTC Final 2023. India star batters Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli occupy 12th and 13th spots with 729 and 700 rating points, respectively. The all-rounder category observed no significant changes, with Cameron Green jumping to 15th spot with 178 points, and India’s Shardul Thakur moving up to the 31st spot.
