The Rohit Sharma-led Team India will take on England in the fifth and the final Test of the five-match series in Dharamsala, starting March 7. The series currently stand in favour of the hosts 3-1, after the Rohit Sharma-led side clinched the fourth Test in Ranchi by five wickets.
But as the two teams travel to Dharamsala for the final match of the series, reports reveal that the Rohit Sharma & co. are set to retain Rajat Patidar. The middle-order batter, who has featured in three Tests so far in the series, has failed to impress with the bat. The 30-year-old batter registered scored of 32, 9, 5, 0, 17 and 0 in the three Tests against England. Check the top betting trends on the best betting sites in India and apps.
Speaking with the Indian Express, a source close to BCCI stated, “The team wants Patidar to get one more chance as they feel Patidar has talent and it’s a matter of time before he gets runs. As India has already won the series, the team wants to try him out one more time instead of giving a debut to Devdutt Padikkal.”
It is to be noted that if Patidar is given another chance, the Karnataka batter, Devdutt Padikkal will have to wait a little to earn the Test cap. Coming back to Patidar, the 30-year-old was named in the Test side after Virat Kohli withdrew from the first two Tests due to personal reasons. Moreover, his place in the side is likely to be retained with KL Rahul also ruled out of the final Test.
