The premier spin bowler from Afghanistan, Rashid Khan has pulled out of the Men’s Hundred due to an unspecified “injury,” on the eve of the tournament. The 24-year-old was set to turn up for Trent Rockets in a three-match stint, but now, he will be replaced in the team by Imad Wasim from Pakistan.

Before his late withdrawal, Rashid Khan was due to play against Southern Brave at Trent Bridge in Nottingham on August 1, Tuesday, the opening day of the Men’s Hundred. Then, he was going to take part in two more matches for Trent Rockets, before getting replaced by Ish Sodhi of New Zealand for the rest of the competition.

Notably, just a couple of days ago, the global superstar from Afghanistan won the Major League Cricket (MLC) 2023 tournament with MI New York on July 30, Sunday. Rashid Khan played a key role in the night of the final against Seattle Orcas at the Grand Prairie Stadium in the Lone Star State, picking up three wickets for just nine runs in his four over spell.

Earlier in the year, the 24-year-old had missed a couple of ODIs for Afghanistan against Sri Lanka due to a back injury. Later on, in an interview with ESPNcricinfo, Rashid Khan went on to state that he was “still to be fully recovered.”

Talking about the Men’s Hundred, it is a standalone tournament in the English cricket calendar to have no date clash with any national team fixture during its separate window from August 1 to 27. But, still, the T20 franchise league is struggling to attract big players in the world game, including the likes of Rashid Khan, for the entirety of its season.
