Star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, who recently bid adieu to the T20Is, is unlikely to get selected for India’s ODI squad again in the near future. Jadeja joined his teammates Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli and brought down curtains on his T20I career after India lifted their second T20 World Cup last month. However, as per latest reports, the seasoned all-rounder’s ODI career may well be over soon.
Jadeja has scored 2756 runs and has 220 wickets to his name in 197 ODIs he played for India. According to reports by Hindustan Times, the new team management led by head coach Gautam Gambhir and the selectors have decided to move on from Jadeja. The 35-year-old was not named in India’s squad for the ODI series against Sri Lanka.
Selectors want to give more opportunities to Axar Patel and Washington Sundar: BCCI Source
Reports further stated that Jadeja is not part of the selection for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 as they are looking at Axar Patel and Washington Sundar for the role of spin bowling all-rounder. A BCCI source told Hindustan Times, “There are only six ODIs, including the three in Sri Lanka, before next year’s Champions Trophy. The selectors want to utilise the handful of games by giving more opportunities to Axar Patel and Washington Sundar.”
The source clarified that there’s nothing wrong in Jadeja’s performance, but the management is looking for younger players, keeping the future in mind. “There’s nothing wrong with Jadeja’s performance. The management just wants to look at other options as we have to build a team for the future. Jadeja is outstanding in Test cricket. His bowling in home conditions is unmatchable. He will be important for India’s World Test Championship bid”, the source added.
