The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) shared the status of Test captain Ben Stokes’ recovery and said that he is ‘on track’ for the upcoming tour. England are set to visit Pakistan for a three-match Test series that will take place from October 7 to October 28 at the Multan Cricket Stadium and Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. Ahead of the Tests, the English board has confirmed that Stokes is on track to feature in the forthcoming series after he underwent scans due to his hamstring injury.
Notably, Stokes was sidelined for England’s recent Test series against Sri Lanka due to the hamstring injury he suffered during Northern Superchargers’ clash in The Hundred on August 11. Ollie Pope shouldered the responsibility of captaincy and guided the side to a 2-1 win against Sri Lanka. However, as per the latest update by the ECB, Stokes is likely to resume his role against Pakistan after his positive scans.
Remains on track for upcoming series: ECB shares Ben Stokes’ fitness status
The England and Wales Cricket Board shared a positive update on Ben Stokes’ injury after his Tests on Wednesday and said that he remains on track for the series. The board, in its statement, said, “England Men’s Test captain Ben Stokes today underwent planned scans on the hamstring injury that ruled him out of the Test series against Sri Lanka. The results of the scans were positive and confirmed that his recovery, since sustaining the injury six-and-a-half weeks ago, remains on track to participate in the upcoming Test series against Pakistan.”
While his return to the field for the Pakistan series remains confirmed, there are still doubts on whether he would be able to bowl and contribute as an all-rounder. Earlier, he told Sky Sports, “I think that’s you getting ahead of yourself. Obviously, I have been six-and-a-half weeks now of just walking and doing stuff in the gym. There’s a lot more than just my hamstring that I need to get back firing and work up again in terms of bowling because you use everything, so I need to get that all right to make sure I don’t do any damage to other parts.”
