Former India captain and legend Sunil Gavaskar recently predicted India’s playing XI for the second Test of the highly-anticipated Border-Gavaskar Trophy series, underway down under. With the visitors taking a 1-0 lead in the series after a dominating 295-run win in the Perth Test last week, the legendary cricketer feels that there will be some changes into the side.
However, Rohit Sharma’s return becomes an obvious change at the top of the order as well as in the leadership role, Sunil Gavaskar opines that there could be two more changes in the Indian line-up for the second Test against Australia, set to be played from December 6 onwards at the Adelaide Oval in Adelaide.

Speaking during an interaction on 7 Cricket, Sunil Gavaskar hinted on possible changes in the Indian line-up for the second Test despite clinching the first match of the series by a comprehensive margin. Gavaskar opined that Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill will definitely return into the side after the former missed the opening Test due to a birth of his second child with Ritika Sajdeh, while Gill sustained and injury, forcing him to miss the first Test in Perth.
The former cricketer turned commentator added that the two will replace Devdutt Padikkal and Dhruv Jurel in the line-up. Gavaskar also added that KL Rahul will drop down to number six in the batting line-up despite having a great outing in Perth. “I think there will be two changes for sure, both Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill coming back into the 11. My feeling is that the batting order will change. Where Rohit Sharma will replace Rahul, Shubman Gill will bat at three, Padikkal and Jurel will go out of the team, Rahul will bat at six,” Gavaskar said on 7Cricket.
Although Gavaskar spoke of the changes in the batting order in the Indian line-up in the second Test, he also added that Ravindra Jadeja could replace Washington Sundar. “And one other change that could happen is that Jadeja comes in place of Washington Sundar,” he added.
