Kapil Dev, the former India captain, made a startling remark on the playing and captaincy styles of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli ahead of the national team’s T20 World Cup 2024 semifinal against England. The 65-year-old spoke about how Rohit Sharma doesn’t jump around in the field in comparison to Virat Kohli in a metaphoric sense, hailing him for working around his limitations.
During the T20 World Cup 2024, Rohit Sharma has been able to bring the best out of the Indian players in the leadership role, taking them to the semifinal against England, which will be played on Thursday, June 27, at the Providence Stadium in Georgetown, Guyana. India have won six out of their seven matches in the tournament thus far, while the one remaining match was a washout.
While speaking to ABP News, Kapil Dev divulged how Rohit Sharma has ascended in the world of cricket in the last decade or so, drawing comparisons with Virat Kohli. He said, as per India Today, “Wo (Rohit) Virat ki tarah nahi khelta, uchal kud nahi karta. Lekin usko apni limitations ka pata hai aur uss limitation mein usse behtar koi nahi hai (He (Rohit) doesn't play like Virat, doesn't jump around like him. But he knows his limitations, and within those limitations, there is no better player than him).”
Rohit Sharma keeps the entire team happy: Kapil Dev
“Aur kai bade players aate hai wo apne liye hi aate hai, captaincy bhi apne liye hi karte hai. Toh isliye Rohit ka ek tick jyada bada hai ki he keeps entire team happy (Many big players come, they care about their own careers, even do captaincy from that point of view. That's why Rohit has an extra tick (mark) because he keeps the entire team happy),” Kapil Dev added.
Kapil Dev, who captained India to their first Cricket World Cup triumph in 1983, has been elected unanimously in the President role for the Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI).
