The Team India skipper, Rohit Sharma is currently leading the side in the ongoing Champions Trophy 2025, underway in Pakistan and the UAE. The Men in Blue are playing all their matches in Dubai, including the semi-final and the final, if they qualify. Although, Rohit has been looking decent with the bat, former India cricketer Amit Mishra recently dropped a big statement on the 37-year-old after the latter dropped himself from the playing XI.
It is to be noted that Rohit Sharma dropped himself from India’s playing XI seeing his poor run of form with the bat. However, this gesture at that moment did not rest well among the fans and cricket pundits, but the man himself clarified the move. Days after this, former Indian cricketer Amit Mishra opened up on it and clarified that it wasn’t a PR stunt.
It wasn't a PR activity: Amit Mishra on Rohit Sharma dropping himself in BGT 2024-25
Speaking on Lallantop, the former leg spinner said, "It wasn't a PR activity; this is what I personally feel. His nature is not like that. I know him personally. He is not that kind of a player who will do such a thing for his PR." In the fifth Test of the BGT 2024-25, in Rohit Sharma’s absence, Jasprit Bumrah led India in Sydney.
Furthermore, Mishra also questioned if there is a better replacement for Rohit Sharma in India at the moment. "You tell me, who is better than him at the moment? In Test cricket, can anyone handle pressure like him? Although he is struggling but, you name one player who can handle that pressure. Definitely, you back the young players and that's what he has done. Name one captain who decided to drop himself in Australia?" he asked.
In the five-match BGT 2024-25, Team India went down 1-3 against Australia. Rohit Sharma continued his poor run of form in the longest format as he concluded the season having scored just 164 runs in 15 innings at an average of 10.93. The defeat for India also meant that they failed to qualify for the World Test Championship final, scheduled to be take place in June 2025.
