Rory Wilson, who was born on January 5, 2006, in Girvan, Scotland, is a promising young forward currently playing for Aston Villa's Under-21 team. Young striker Wilson began his football journey with Rangers, at the age of eight. During the 2021–22 season, he showcased his goal-scoring prowess by netting 49 goals for both club and country. In July 2022, Wilson transferred to Aston Villa, signing his first professional contract with the club on his 17th birthday, January 6, 2023. Since joining Villa, he has continued to impress, representing Scotland at various youth levels, including the Under-17 and Under-21 teams.
As of October 2024, Wilson was reported to be in a dispute over a contract with Aston Villa, citing playing time and seeking better terms. This had caused rumors regarding his future at the club with his current contract set to expire in the coming summer. However, recent reports as of today confirm that Wilson will sign a new long-term contract with Aston Villa, putting an end to the transfer exit rumors. This will serve as a good sign for Aston Villa, who are playing an excellent brand of football under Unai Emery and will look to nourish such young talents for achieving more success.
Villa progresses to FA Cup semi-final with 3-0 win over Preston
Aston Villa won 3-0 at Preston North End in the FA Cup quarter-finals at Deepdale Stadium, progressing to their first semi-final since the 2014-15 campaign. Marcus Rashford, the Manchester United loanee, ended his 14-match goal drought as he scored two in the second half. One was from Lucas Digne's cross and the second was when he converted from a penalty when Morgan Rogers was fouled. Jacob Ramsey rounded off with a solo effort to score the third and underlined Villa's supremacy.
Preston, which was the only non-Premier League team remaining in the competition, showed resilience in the first half but couldn't capitalize on their chances. Villa's superior quality became evident after halftime, leading to a comfortable win. Villa will now face Crystal Palace in the semi-finals in late April.
