In a latest development, Devin Haney has formally requested the New York State Athletic Commission (NYSAC) to disqualify Ryan Garcia while declaring him the winner of their fight contested last month. In response, Ryan Garcia has demanded Devin Haney to return him his $1.5 million, which he had paid for being overweight during their showdown.
Notably, Ryan Garcia and Devin Haney had agreed to pay each other $500k for every pound they exceeded over the 140-pound weight limit before their boxing match at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. When Garcia exceeded the weight by a whopping 3.2 pounds during a pre-fight weigh-in, he had paid Haney $1.5 million.
With his excess weight, Ryan Garcia lost the opportunity to win the WBC World Super Lightweight Championship against Devin Haney, but he managed to defeat him in a non-title bout, ensuring that the Dream wasn’t a champion anymore. Shortly after their match, it was revealed that KingRy tested positive for Ostarine, and he needed to provide a B-sample, for which the results are still pending.
The claims from Devin Haney to get Ryan Garcia disqualified from their fight to NYSAC include the use of PED, prohibited use of IVs, the admission of coming into the boxing match overweight to gain an unfair advantage.
After the news of Haney moving to NYSAC came through, Garcia took to his official X account and remarked, “I need my money back if they overrule my victory. I paid him money and that was to accept the weight. So give me my fucking money back”.
