India A batter Sai Sudharsan joined Surrey County Cricket Club for the remainder of its County Championship season. Sudharsan, who made his debut for India A in the Emerging Asia Cup 2023, has only played eight first-class matches for Tamil Nadu, where he scored 598 runs with an average of 42.71, with a combination of two tons and one half-century.
Apart from this, Sudharsan has been a part of the 2022 IPL champions Gujarat Titans, where he scored 507 runs in 13 matches. Surrey Cricket posted on their social media accounts and announced the signing of the 21-year-old cricketer. Surrey wrote, “Surrey sign exciting young Indian batter Sai Sudharsan for the remainder of the 2023 season.”
The post further read, “Sudharsan will add depth to the squad for the final three games of the year. Welcome, Sai!” Speaking on Sudharsan's signing, Surrey’s head coach Alec Stewart said that the Chennai-born cricketer was highly recommended by many stalwarts of cricket. He said, “With the busy schedule of international and domestic cricket around the world, I'm pleased to add Sai Sudharsan to our available squad of players.”
The coach added, "Sai has come highly recommended to me by people I hugely respect, including a couple of the greats of the Indian game, who have seen and worked closely with him. Sai will add to the batting options for the final three games of the season, and we look forward to welcoming him to the dressing room.” The Gujarat Titans cricketer will play three of Surrey’s games; September 3 against Warwickshire, September 19 against Northamptonshire and on September 26 against Hampshire.
