The inaugural winners of the Indian Premier League (IPL), Rajasthan Royals (RR) have received a massive boost ahead of their next match, where they will travel to Mullanpur to take on Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the IPL 2025. Ahead of the crucial match, star Indian wicketkeeper-batter and skipper of the Royals, Sanju Samson has been cleared from Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) Centre of Excellence (CoE) following his recovery from a fractured finger.
It is to be noted that the Indian keeper-batter had sustained a fracture on his finger during the T20I series against England. However, he missed the remaining matches of the series and also played in the first three matches of RR as an Impact Player, with Riyan Parag standing-in for him.
Sanju Samson cleared to keep wickets in IPL 2025; to resume captaincy vs PBKS
“Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson has received clearance from the National Cricket Academy (NCA) to resume wicketkeeping duties following a period of recovery. The clearance comes after a thorough assessment of his fitness by the NCA medical team,” the statement from the release read.
In the released it was also confirmed that Samson will resume captaincy of the franchise from their next match, where they will take on Punjab Kings on Saturday, April 5. “With this positive development, Samson will return to his full leadership role and resume captaincy from the team’s next match against the Punjab Kings. The franchise is encouraged by Samson’s progress and looks forward to having him back in action behind the stumps and leading the side,” it further read.
Speaking of the franchise, the RR are reeling at the ninth place in the points table. From the three matches, they have got only one win, which came against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in their previous match at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati. On Saturday, they will take on Shreyas Iyer-led PBKS at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur, Chandigarh.
