Venkatesh Prasad, the former Indian cricketer, and coach, recently visited the Swami Narayan temple in New Jersey, USA, along with Bollywood actor Suniel Shetty. Prasad shared a picture with the Bollywood star on social media where he revealed that they prayed for a good performance for the Indian team at the 2023 World Cup.
Interestingly, Prasad revealed that he had secretly prayed for KL Rahul, the Indian batsman, and wicketkeeper, who also happens to be the son-in-law of Suniel Shetty. Rahul is married to Shetty’s daughter, Athiya Shetty, who is also a Bollywood actor.
"Visited the Swami Narayan temple in New Jersey with Anna. Prayed for well being of all Bharatvasis & for the Indian Team to do well in the World Cup. Also secretely prayed for KL to smash it to all corners, have a great world cup and silence his critics like me. Sab khush rahein," Prasad said in a tweet.
This comes as a surprise for cricket fans, as Prasad has been quite vocal in criticizing KL Rahul's performances in recent times, especially during the Test series against Australia this year. The former pacer even claimed that KL Rahul's selection for the Test team was the result of favoritism, which led to an argument with fellow cricketer Aakash Chopra about the subject.
KL Rahul is included in the squad for the Asia Cup 2023 but could miss the initial games due to a niggle. The wicketkeeper-batsman is coming back following a long injury layoff and will have to prove himself in the continental tournament, given that the 50-over World Cup is just around the corner.
