Sanju Samson urges MS Dhoni to play more Rajasthan Royals (RR) captain Sanju Samson has urged former India captain MS Dhoni to not to retire from competitive cricket. Both Sanju and Dhoni will be seen in action in IPL 2025 for their respective sides. Dhoni, who has been active in IPL since 2008, will don CSK jersey again. Dhoni was retained by CSK before the IPL 2025 auction that took place in November 2024. After relinquishing the captaincy role in 2024, Dhoni plays the role of guide for CSK skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad. Recently, Sanju and Dhoni were seen attending an event where the bonhomie between both was witnessed by their supporters. During the programme, Samson requested the 43-year-old to feature in IPL 2026.

During the event, Samson was asked about Dhoni’s retirement plans. Responding to the question, the RR stumper said ‘Thoda aur,’ requesting the veteran to continue in upcoming IPL seasons. “I have to learn from my mentor here. When Mahi bhai comes to play in the IPL, people keep talking, ‘Is he retiring?’ I just keep thinking, ‘Thoda aur abhi’,” added Sanju.

Sanju will look to gain complete fitness before IPL 2025

Sanju Samson will strive to gain complete fitness before IPL 2025 as he underwent his index-finger surgery successfully. The right-handed batter picked up the injury while batting against England in the fifth T20I against England played in Mumbai. In the upcoming IPL edition, he can be seen as an opener for Rajasthan, along with Yashasvi Jaiswal.

In the previous IPL seasons, Samson amassed 531 runs in 16 matches at a strike rate of 153.46. With these numbers, he was the fifth-most successful batter in the season. This time, he will be expected to do wonders with his bat again for the Royals. RR haven’t won the coveted trophy after clinching their maiden title victory under the late Australia legend Shane Warne in 2008. Royals will kick off their IPL 2025 campaign against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on March 23.
