Former Manchester City forward Sergio Aguero revealed his friend and new Major League Soccer star Lionel Messi’s reaction to his new team Inter Miami’s place in the Eastern Conference. After failing to rejoin Barcelona and snubbing a big-money deal from Saudi Arabia, Messi chose the David Beckham-owned franchise in the MLS.
Unfortunately for the FIFA World Cup 2022 winner, Inter Miami has been far different from his former club Paris Saint Germain, who was reigning and defending champions of France for multiple years. Hence joking with his close friend, Aguero sent Messi a screenshot of the place of his team and expressed that he needs to carry Miami to an eighth or ninth-place finish.
While speaking to ESPN, Aguero said, “I spoke to Messi yesterday, I sent him a message with a screenshot of the Eastern Conference standings and I said: ‘Your team is behind! You have to move up to 8th/9th!” Later in the conversation, Aguero shared that Messi with a laugh expressed that he will make sure that Inter Miami will make the playoff stage. Aguero revealed, “Messi cracked up. He said, ‘We have to make the playoffs!’”
Coming back to Lionel Messi, the former PSG talisman expressed how failing to make a return to Barcelona pushed him to leave Europe. "I've taken the decision that I am going to Miami," Messi told newspapers Diario Sport and Mundo Deportivo. He added: "It's true that I had offers from another European team but I didn't even think about it because, in Europe, my idea was only to go to Barcelona.
Further talking about his transfer, He added, "After winning the World Cup and not being able to go to Barca, it's time to go to MLS to live football in a different way and enjoy my day-to-day life more. Obviously with the same responsibility and desire to win, and to do things well, but with more calm"
