Middle-order batter, Shreyas Iyer, who was recently seen playing for India D in the Duleep Trophy 2024, will next be seen in action in the Irani Cup as he will feature for the Mumbai side. Moreover, according to reports citing Cricbuzz, Shardul Thakur is also set to play in the upcoming domestic tournament where Mumbai will take on Rest of India at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow.
Although the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) is yet to announce their squad for the Irani Cup 2024, Shardul Thakur’s availability also comes as a boost after he missed competitive cricket due to an ankle injury. While he did appear in the KSCA tournament, but according to a top MCA official as reported by Cricbuzz, Thakur has made himself available for the five-day First-Class fixture.
Meanwhile Iyer, who is struggling to get a place in the Indian team and has been amid hot waters, will also be available for selection in the upcoming match. The five-day tournament, which is played between the winner of the Ranji Trophy and the Rest of India, will this year see Mumbai take on the other side from October 1 to 5. Ajinkya Rahane will continue to lead Mumbai after he took the side to 42nd title triumph in Ranji Trophy.
Lucknow to host Irani Cup 2024
After the Irani Cup 2024 was moved from Mumbai, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is set to host the tie in Lucknow. However, an official communication on the same is still awaited from the BCCI, several reports have confirmed that the domestic tournament will be played in Lucknow in October.
