Just days ahead of the much-awaited IPL 2024 auction, IPL franchise Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) announced their skipper and his deputy for the upcoming edition. Taking to social platforms, the Kolkata-based franchise revealed that Indian batter Shreyas Iyer will return as the captain for IPL 2024, whereas Nitish Rana, who led the franchise in IPL 2023 has been named his deputy.

 

Venky Mysore, CEO of KKR in his statement made this announcement. “It was indeed unfortunate that Shreyas missed IPL 2023 due to injury. We are delighted that he’s back and at the helm as Captain. The way he has worked hard to recover from his injury and the form he has displayed is a testament to his character,” Venky Mysore quoted.

 

The 29-year-old Iyer, who is currently in South Africa for the ongoing three-match T20I series also spoke about his return at the helm. “I believe the last season presented us with several challenges, including my absence due to injury. Nitish did a great job not only filling in for me but also with his commendable leadership,” Iyer added.

 

Nitish Rana named vice-captain of KKR in IPL 2024

 

Nitish Rana, who took the helm, replacing injured Iyer has been named the vice-captain for the 17th edition of the tournament. On his appointment as Iyer’s deputy, Venky Mysore added, “We are also grateful that Nitish had agreed to step into Shreyas’s shoes last season and did a great job. There’s no doubt Nitish a Vice Captain will support Shreyas in every possible way for the benefit of Team KKR”.
