After a dominating win by 295 runs in the first Test, the action will now move to Adelaide, which will host the second Test of the five-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25. In the opening Test, the Men in Blue missed the services of skipper Rohit Sharma, who was on a paternity break as he welcomed his second child, a baby boy with wife Ritika Sajdeh.

Apart from Rohit, Shubman Gill also missed the opening Test after suffering a hairline fracture during the match simulation sessions at the WACA Stadium in Perth. Although, the Indian top-order batter was advised 10 days rest, latest reports have revealed that he might miss the second Test, set to be played at the Adelaide Oval in Adelaide from December 6 to 10.

Shubman Gill likely to miss second Test against Australia

A Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) source informed The Times of India (TOI) that Gill might miss the second Test and also the two-day warm-up match, down under. “Gill was advised a 10-14 day rest by the medical specialist after suffering that injury. He wouldn’t play in the practice match on the weekend and is doubtful at the moment for the second Test too. Let us see how much his injury has healed, how his finger feels,” a source told, as quoted by The Times of India.

If the reports are to be believed, he will not take part in the warm-up match, set to be played in Canberra from Saturday, November 30, followed by the pink-ball Test in Adelaide. Furthermore, keeping Gill’s absence in mind along with Rohit Sharma’s return in the Indian camp, KL Rahul is likely to be demoted to number three position with Devdutt Padikkal being snubbed from the side. Additionally, Rohit Sharma is set to return at the top of the order with Yashasvi Jaiswal.
