India’s rising star Shubman Gill is likely to be rested for the upcoming series against Bangladesh. After the completion of the two-match Test series, India and Bangladesh will lock horns in a three-match T20I series. The series will begin on October 7 and come to conclusion on October 12 with matches being held at three sporting venues across India. Before the Test series beginning on September 19, there are reports making rounds that Gill, India’s vice-captain will be rested for the T20I series.
Notably, over the years, Gill has emerged as one of the most integral members of India’s top-order along with names like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Yashasvi Jaiswal. These names are expected to be a part of India’s playing XI in all 10 Tests this season. Apart from Gill, a few other important names are also expected to be rested ahead of the three-match Test series against New Zealand.
With a turnaround of three days, it’s important to give Gill a break: BCCI Source
Notably, on September 19, India will begin their Test season by clashing against Bangladesh in Chennai, followed by the second match in Kanpur from September 27. A BCCI source told PTI on the condition of anonymity, "Yes, Shubman will be rested for the Bangladesh T20I series. If you look at the fixture, the three T20Is will be played on October 7 (Gwalior), 10 (Delhi) and 13 (Hyderabad). Now the first Test vs New Zealand starts October 16.”
He added, "So with a turnaround of three days, it is important to give Gill a break.” Notably, Gill has played 21 T20Is for and has scored one hundred along with three fifties with a strike rate of nearly 140. Reports suggest that while names Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja have retired from the shortest format, names like Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah will also be rested due to workload management.
