Indian women’s wicketkeeper batter Taniya Bhatia has alleged a robbery that took place while she was staying in an England hotel. The Indian cricketer took to Twitter to reveal the incident of a robbery that took place during her stay at the Marriott Hotel in London. Notably, the Indian women’s cricket team recently toured England for a white-ball series that ended on Saturday (24 September).
Now, after all the players have returned to India, Bhatia revealed the incident. She alleged that someone walked into her personal room and stole cash, cards, watches, and jewellery. The wicketkeeper batter then sought help from the England Cricket Board and hoped for a quick investigation and resolution into the matter.
“Shocked and disappointed at Marriot Hotel London Maida Vale management; someone walked into my personal room and stole my bag with cash, cards, watches and jewellery during my recent stay as a part of Indian Women's Cricket team. @MarriottBonvoy @Marriott. So unsafe,” Bhatia tweeted on Monday. “Hoping for a quick investigation and resolution of this matter. Such lack of security at @ECB_cricket's preferred hotel partner is astounding. Hope they will take cognisance as well,” she added.
Following the 24-year-old's complaint, the hotel responded via their Twitter handle and wrote, "Hi Taniya, we are sorry to hear this. Please DM us your name and the email address you made the reservation with and the exact dates of your stay, so we can look into this further."
Notably, the Indian women’s cricket team spent around two weeks in England. The Harmanpreet Kaur-led team played three ODIs and as many T20Is during their stay in England. While they lost the T20I series 1-2, the Women in Blue whitewashed England in the ODI series and gave a fitting tribute to their legendary cricketer Jhulan Goswami.
