India’s head coach Gautam Gambhir opened up on KL Rahul’s place in the second Test against New Zealand. After losing the first Test by eight wickets in Kanpur, India will lock horns with New Zealand in the second Test in Pune beginning on October 28 at the Maharashtra Cricket Association in Pune. KL Rahul has been going through a difficult phase in his career and questions are arising over his spot in India’s middle order. After Sarfaraz Khan’s iconic 150 in the first Test, Rahul’s position is being questioned.

While it is not known who will play between Khan and Rahul in the second Test, Indian head coach backed Rahul and said that the management wants to back its players. The 32-year-old cricketer came up with a century against South Africa, but his below par performance in Bengaluru has made several pundits question his form.

Social media does not matter one bit: Gautam Gambhir on KL Rahul’s position

On the eve of the second Test against New Zealand, Gambhir addressed the media and said that the opinion of management matters and not what pundits think. He said, “First of all, social media does not matter one bit. You do not pick players because of social media or what the experts think. What the team management thinks, what the leadership group thinks, is very very important. Ultimately, everyone is judged, international cricket is about being judged. Everyone's performance will be judged eventually.”

He added, "But I feel he is batting really well, he has had a decent knock in Kanpur, obviously on a difficult wicket and he played according to the plans. He would be knowing that he wants to score big runs, he has that capability of scoring these big runs that is why he is being backed by the team management.”
