The five-match Test series between India and England currently stands levelled at 1-1. While the visitors registered a 28-run win in the opener, the Rohit Sharma-led side gave a fightback to register a 106-run win in Visakhapatnam. With around ten days gap in between, the visitors have travelled to Dubai to spend some time with their families, the Men in Blue are trying to put in hard yards to continue their winning momentum.
However, days ahead of the start of the third Test, the hosts have been handed another blow. After Ravindra Jadeja and KL Rahul missed the second Test with injuries, Shreyas Iyer has now reported of his injury struggles keeping him doubtful for the remainder of the series.
The middle-order batter has complained of back and groin pain, putting his participating under doubt for the remaining Tests against England. “Iyer has informed the Indian team management and the medical staff that his back gets stiff after playing more than 30 balls and he feels pain in his groin while playing forward defence,” a source told as informed by The Indian Express.
“Post surgery, he is facing this issue for the first time so he has been advised for rest for a few weeks. He will head to NCA later,” the media outlet further added.
The Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee is yet to name the squad for the remainder of the Tests. The committee was scheduled to pick the team by Thursday, February 8 but decided to wait for a day more to confirm the availability of Virat Kohli.
Go back and score runs in domestic cricket: Pragyan Ojha on Iyer
After struggling to score big in the opening two Tests against England, former Indian cricketer Pragyan Ojha issued a fiery warning to the middle-order batter. Ojha opined that Iyer should play domestic cricket and score runs after struggling to score runs since the South Africa series.
“Shreyas Iyer was left slightly behind. When you talk about great batters like Virat Kohli, and KL Rahul has also scored runs, when they return, they will automatically be part of the XI. So probably Shreyas Iyer and Rajat Patidar will have to make way because the situation is like that,” Ojha said in a chat with the broadcasters.
Speaking of the next match, the third Test between India and England is scheduled to commence from February 15 at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Rajkot.
